Daddy's Pancakes

Everyone in our home knows that Dad's pancakes are WAY better than Mom's pancakes. I (Mom) don't really understand why Dad's pancakes are so much better than mine because we use the same exact recipe, but it's true - his are better!

K is still cooking once-a-week. This week she wanted to make pancakes, bacon, and sausage for supper. We do breakfast for supper around here quite regularly.

K did a great job flipping pancakes. She's done this before, but this was the first time she really did it well! Hey - her Dad's a great teacher!

We used the strawberry jam we made yesterday as a topping on our pancakes, and let's just say these were the BEST pancakes any of us had ever eaten in our lives!!!!

The Boy in the Kitchen

T helped me out in the kitchen during our Saturday homemade pizza night. He told me he thought a bacon pepperoni pizza would be good, so I let him make it.

Garden Update

Tonight for dinner, Heath grilled some chicken, and I put together a broccoli salad, and sauteed some mushrooms. T asked if there were any other choices for vegetables. I said, "no." Then, he asked if they could go pick some spinach from the garden to eat with their dinner. I said, "yes!" They picked the spinach, washed the spinach, and enjoyed eating the spinach! This picture shows you what our garden looked like on planting day, and what it looks like now!
Some close ups of some of our growing veggies! It's been so much fun to watch our garden grow!

Banana Muffins

Mom and the girls still try and bake while the boys go to scouts on Tuesday evenings. Recently, we tried out a new recipe for Banana muffins. I thought the girls would think it was FUN to mash bananas. Nope, they thought it was "disgusting!"

Tuesday = Baking Night

The boys go to scouts on Tuesdays, and the girls and I do some baking. We're on a muffin kick right now. One of our favorite kinds of muffins to make are orange juice muffins, and the recipe can be found at the Hillbilly Housewife website. For the icing recipe, mom substitutes orange juice for the milk. K likes to fill the muffin cups up, and L loves to stir the eggs.

Waste Not Want Not

When you're done eating all your cereal, do you drink the milk out of your bowl? Well, T always does. This morning he missed his mouth somehow, but that didn't stop him from slurping up his spillage from the kitchen counter!

Christmas Baking

Yesterday the children and I did our Christmas baking. The girls and I made blueberry muffins for our Christmas Eve breakfast, and puppy chow for a special Christmas treat. We used a recipe like this for the puppy chow. I was concerned that I didn't have a mixing bowl LARGE enough to stir the puppy chow in, and K suggested we use our big stock pot. I thought to myself, "what a wonderful little cook she is turning out to be!" It's fun to cook in the kitchen with your kids. The messes are always bigger, but hey, it's not so bad if they help you clean it up! T spent some time in the kitchen today too because he signed up to take cupcakes to his scout Christmas party.

The girls shook the bags to cover the puppy chow in powder sugar!
L and K took turns stirring the muffin batter
Tyler decorated the cupcakes for his cub scout Christmas party!

Look What's Cookin'

We were busy in the kitchen this week. We made homemade applesauce in the crockpot. You can find the recipe we used here. On Tuesday nights, the boys are going to cub scouts, and the girls and I are going to bake. Last Tuesday Kaitlyn and I made cinnamon rolls and wheat bread. Lauren didn't get to participate because she was sick. But, I'm sure we'll catch a few cute pictures of her in the kitchen with us next week when we make pumpkin bread.
